ArtFields was founded in 2013 to revitalize Lake City, bring access to the arts to an underserved area, and celebrate artists living and working in the South. The flagship event turns the town into a gallery with artists competing for $100,000 in prizes. The Records Building
Located on the site of the 1823 courthouse, the Marion County Records Building was completed in 1903. Its architectural style is adapted from the late Romanesque revival that influenced the design of many public buildings of that period. Historic Dillon Courthouse
Constructed in 1911, the Dillon County Courthouse is a beaux-arts brick and stone, neoclassical structure featuring a colossal central ionic portico with dual flanking wings. It is one of six courthouses in South Carolina designed by architect William Augustus Edwards, who designed numerous public buildings in the early 20th century, including the Withers Building at Winthrop University and Currell College at the University of South Carolina. An exhibition of photographs tracing Dillon County history is featured on the courthouse’s top floor.
Great Pee Dee River Water Sports
The Pee Dee River is large and wild. It runs through 175 miles of South Carolina and offers diverse scenery along a winding course from the Piedmont, through the Sandhills and Coastal Plain, and into the Coastal Zone. The river floodplain and adjacent uplands contain large acreages of wild and undeveloped forest land, wetlands, and open waters that provide excellent habitat for a variety of wildlife species. The Pee Dee River provides recreational boating and fishing opportunities and many other nature-based recreations that are valued by the public.
